Re: Zetagi B300P amp.
Yes, there is a valid point here:
The CB market can be sold any old crap in the name of a linear amplifier, simply because that market is totally unregulated and these devices are illegal to use on that band.
Therefore it makes sense for the manufacturers to cut as many corners as possible and offer the equipment at attractive prices, yes? The result is basically crappy gear.
If it were destined for the amateur market, the equipment would need to meet certain standards and to acheive this adds expense, putting it out of range of many casual CB fans.
Incidentally, the best made linear amp I have encountered was the Bremi BRL200 valve unit - nicely rated transformer, half decent electrolytics and Pi output. My only criticism would be that the valves were biased a bit on the heavy side, but an appropriate zener in the cathode circuit would probably have sorted that out.

Hi Ewen.
No, you are just experiencing the effects of a high RF field. The same as can cause a modern-ish car to grind to a halt if you key the mic.
Or wipe out a neighbour's TV.

Re: Zetagi B300P amp.
So,just to clarify.
If i run over a rat on my Vespa,it wont be as squidgy as if i run over it with my 44 ton truck, right.
But i could always run over it twice on the scoot,as with a Vespa,it is well under half the weight of my truck. But that could just be manufacturer info.
So,to finish.
I want to know,in simple terms, how many times i need to run over the rat on my scooter,to get the same effect as if a ran over it in my truck.
PS,the truck isnt linear, nor is the scoot, and both have different tyre widths, does this matter?
PPS, i dont park near caravans, cos the lights keep flashing.
Anyway, whats a cb amp?
Craig.

Re: Zetagi B300P amp.
The best way is to hang the scooter from a crane at say, 100m, then drop it on the rat. Same effect as driving over it with the truck

Re: Zetagi B300P amp.
Interesting read this thread. I have a little kl200 and on my old radio, early version ss3900, it peaked at 20w ssb and with the amp it done about 140w. I now have a Maas dx5000 and on the lowest power it does 25w ssb and my amp is doing 200w now. It gets hot quickly, but not interfering with tv or radio in our house, and not getting any on air comments of distortion. Inside the radio everything is so tiny, I dare not play with the settings. Even with my glasses on I can't see clearly the components, so that is where the power setting remains.
As for the ham/cb(gear,not operators) thing, if cheap cb/11m equipment wasn't available, then I would not be involved with this hobby which I really enjoy. As with countless others with families, homes, ever increasing cost of living, this is the only avenue into radio com's hobby(cheap, low quality gear). I find myself very fortunate to have scraped together some second hand gear so I can enjoy radio again.
Happy DXing,
Mike.
