Re: More snobbiness on the ham bands.

well, Not being a ham myself yet (nor may Never be?) I did search for that complainers email sent to ofcom (the original link on page 2 is broken): http://stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/binaries/consultations/aradio/responses/llewellyn.pdf

^^^^ maybe that one will work again?

Aaaaanyway.... after a read, and ignoring the fact that he can`t spell for toffee, nor elucidate long enough to make a cogent point (I like quick sharp facts, Numerical Ordered please).

I find myself drawn to this sentence of his very early on in his diatribe:

"At the moment UK Amateurs can hold their heads up high against Amateurs of any other country in the world"

yeah, ok... so, what`s this "AGAINST" part about?
against? erm.. against What in particular?
what is it you are AGAINST here?
"against" suggests Opposition, does it not?

and amateur radio suggests kinship of a sort (and freebanders), so I TOTALLY fail to see where the 2 meet up?

Han Radio, Fellowship in Hatred! come join us now, become that bastard you always wanted to be but never had that .gov permission!

meh Fu(k it, sooner stick to free band, at least it does what it says on the box emoticon

edited to add: I just read the rest of his email and in a nutshell I recon folk like him don`t deserve to have any mates!

Or a license...

Quote:
"It is easy to determine those that obey the 10W limit and those that patently do not."

Oh?
So the guy running 100 watts into a 5-foot bit of wire suspended 3 feet above the ground is also sending some encoded message within his signal betraying his sin?

And the guy with an inverted V at 200 feet running 10 watts on 80m is simmilary identifiable as keeping within the license conditions?
What a load of crap from someone who claims to be highly qualified in this area.

Reading through the entire letter, I'm feeling that this guy and people like him are the very ones who would kill the hobby if left to do so.

Yep, I'm sure many of you bad boys disobey the restrictions, but that's because you are all BAD.

Point is, there's no way he could determine the poer being used, and we all know what a difference a good antenna makes.

Not all ham-only guys are good, either:
Without giving too much away, I was at a ham radio event where the (very experienced) op was using a beast of an amplifier to get himself heard. I was dicussing the technicalities of the amp with him and it transpired that it was capable of... well, over the legal limit. It was a Linear Amp UK model, the Challenger IV, and he was, shall we say, making good use of its capacity. emoticon

I dont suppose it will ever change amongst SOME of the older hams they are stuck in a time warp
and dont think anyone deserves a licence who cant build a radio or do morse code what a load of cr@p.I dont have my licence yet and for the record could transmit and read morse at the age of 6 my father was a radio operator in the RAF and taught me (does that make me more deserved)i dont think so.I know a good few ham operators and there great they dont give a dam and just enjoy the Hobby as thats all it is a hobby not bloody MI5.Im booked to start my foundation in January and bigoted letters like this make me wonder if its worth the hassle.Long live T5. emoticon

indeed scoty long live T5, and good luck geting your m6! Im due to take my test next thursday and im looking forward to going onto the ham bands, that is if anyone will speak to me emoticon
Ive never understood those who look down on foundation holders surly if they dont think an m6 is upto scratch then why not offer to teach them a thing or 2 if its that important to them.
I think the older lot are a bit bitter that they had to jump through hoops to get their ticket, whilst someone like me can get fast tracked in just a few weeks. emoticon

i think you'll pass, its easy, so is the intermediate. both memory tests really, remembering what you read in the book. All the working out and hard bits come in the full licence test which i got bored of reading emoticon
