Re: KL400 strangeness
To disable the rf detection and switch the amp manually :-
1. Cut the PCB track between R8 and Tr4
2. Add pull-down resistor to base of Tr4 to avoid leaving it floating. I used 22k
3. Shorting across the emitter and collector of Tr4 will now switch the amp into TX. (Obviously this is best done with an external relay)
To avoid the fading receive problem.
4. In addition to the above, cut a track on the switch pcb connecting to J10 (this is the ON/OFF switch). This break needs shorting at the same time as 3 during TX. (Again, best done with a relay)
Not that i understand why, but turning the amp OFF during RX completely prevents the fading in receive.
Oh - and if you try any of this, you do so at you and your amp's own risk !

Re: KL400 strangeness
Hi buddy,
No time to actually talk on the airwaves !! I'm too damn busy fiddling with stuff !!
Good luck with getting back on the air - sure i'll see you about soon. Still interested in the thursday night thing btw - perhaps I should jump in on 13 at some point. I'm rarely feeling chatty enough for muppet block rag-chewing though
