Re: Arduino project chat

Right!

my 20x 16MHz crystals arrived today, so if you want to PM me your postal addy, I`ll send a couple to you emoticon

edited to add, you`ll also need a pair of capacitors as well, I don`t have any 22pF but I have some 30pF one that will work just as well, I`ll send you some of those if need then as well emoticon

Re: Arduino project chat

Many thanks for your hints and help.

The bad news are that my local dealer wont receive the ATmega chip for a long time.

So, I have two ways, order the chip from another shop and pay 10 euros for shippment, Ill pay more for the shippment than for the chip... Or buy a complete assembled arduino board.

Ill take the second option, many thanks for your xtals offer.

Re: Arduino project chat

if you DO, buy a whole board, get one with a removable Chip emoticon

the Uno is a good one.

Re: Arduino project chat

Meh, sorry Bro but I beat ya to it, I have made in under 1 hour, a working "arduino" board, And programmed it emoticon

it really IS simple!

I`ll post pics at a latter date (too much to do over the next few days).

you may be certain though, that it IS a simple project and really shouldn`t take too much work to get something working emoticon

all the best!

Re: Arduino project chat

Ok, here we go!!!

Image

Ive got the UNO board and the LCD. It works!!!

I want from arduino to move, via a servo, the capacitor of a MagLoop antena. Maybe its to complex for a begginer like me, but this is the challenge.

The arduino has to read, via CAT port of my Yaesu 817, the frecuency and then move the capacitor of the MagLoop antena.

Dont know how to do it, first I need to know the servo degrees movement for each frecuency and then tell the arduino to move the servo to that position.

Re: Arduino project chat

Nice work!

and good to see that you have at least One official board now, That will help you Loads in future projects for programming blank chips!
I bought 100 of these Atmel 328P chips (it was cheaper in Bulk), and used my official board to put the arduino Bootloader onto them, needless to say i`m selling them on eBay now as kits with the crystal, caps, resistors, chip socket and an LED for lots of blinky goodness emoticon
(I have over 5,000 LEDs here too!)

The Servo shouldn`t be too much of a problem using the Servo.h library, although you may need to put a ferrite filter around the control wires in case the RF alters the PWM in some way.
the problem I would have would be finding out the CAT Protocol, used by that radio and how to read/intercept it?
I`v tried using a serial port reader resident on the laptop, but you get a bus conflict if you try to use it whilst monitoring it with another program.
you need either the tables, or some way of making a Passive monitor for it like a data sniffer.
then work out what changes in the data stream when you alter freq.

Good luck with that! it should be doable though emoticon

Re: Arduino project chat

Tested the servo, no ferrites needed. (Futaba servo). Also, I did my first "Sketch" and I can read on the LCD the servo position. (From 0 to 180 degrees) Im very proud of it :-)

Please post a link to your ebay kit, I think could be cheaper than comercial kits...

The yaesu CAT. I dont know where to start, I need time to read docs, but now in Madrid, the spring season, its nice and hot outside home so no much time left to seat in front of the computer... (Its much better to stay in the park with wife and my dogs with my FT-817...)

Fantastic! and Yes, you should be pleased with this emoticon

the link is here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250805324511&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT

but if a Moderator wants to remove this, then I`m fine with that, it is NOT my intention to use this place for sales!

is sounds like you need to sit outside with a laptop and a beer for this sort of work, I know it`s a Horrible thing to be forced into doing, but life is hard some times emoticon

Re: Arduino project chat

Many thanks for the link, its a good and affordable kit.

About YAESU. The good news are that yaesu cat its a TTL protocole, same as pin 0 & 1 at the arduino board. Tha bad are I cant find a "Sketch" to read those TTL from the yaesu cat.

But mixing two sketches from the examples, I have uploaded my own sketch where I can turn the servo via a pot and see on the LCD the amount of degrees, so its very easy to tune the antena for the required frecuency. This is a manual mode tunning. I can live with it.

Im very happy with my board, found a lot of examples in the net and in youtube, so many things to do and no time for all...
