Alpha Tango QSL cards

I like to work activations, islands and many out of the way places. And I sometimes send and like to receive QSL cards. Although I don't really collect them, or keep count of DXCC's emoticon

The standard contribution is $1 for QSL cards, and I will always put this in the card particularly if the operator has gone out of his/her way to activate a sought after DXCC, like an island in the middle of nowhere, or a mountain, or something which they have spent time, effort and money doing, I don't even mind spending a bit more to help with the cost if I can.

But I get peeved at paying $1 to a QSL manager somewhere in Europe for a home operator QSL card, regardless of where its from. But I do so, if its been requested.

Recently I had a QSO with a 196 AT station, it was a good contact, nice radio op. I sent a card with my $1 contribution to the QSL manager. It was returned with my $1 asking for $2! Remember this is a home operator. There was a note saying " following the AT board meeting standard contribution is now $2" Well Mr AT you can stick your card, your board meeting wont make me pay $2 for a qsl card from a home operator. I don't need it, you keep it.

I think its part of the cost of the hobby to print, send QSL cards etc. If Mr AT wants me to help him, he's mistaken.

i'm sure some people use the radio to make some cash, times are hard all over but i will never ask anyone to send me money. AT group are a bit up themselfs and things like this wont help there reputation amongst radio operators emoticon
