Advice wanted

I am new to this and still have to get a few more items before I get going and want to spend my hard earnt cash wisely I have a superstar 3900 red display and am in need of coax which is the best to buy, also what aerial would be best to put on a pole when I park up on top of some very good high vantage points. Also from a power point of view what is best as my superstar is still in standard form with no tampering being done to it

Best Regards 26FB1340 Andy

Re: Advice wanted

Hello Andy,

I find the Anton 99 (solar on 99) mounted on two interlocking, five foot poles works well, for a vertical antenna.

For a horizontal antenna I use a two-element Super-Yagi, mounted on the same poles.

I find they are a good compromise between performance and practicality. ie They break down into small enough pieces to fit inside the car.

Hi andy i agree i think the Antron 99 is a good vertical for your kind of work, i run a small rm mobile amp at 80 to 100 from a standard cobra 148 mk1 , its a good cheep starting point that will work, good idea is to get some good coax rg8 etc regards Tim 26fb801 emoticon

Cheers for the input guys and thank you for taking the time to reply the antron 99 was 1 I was looking at along with the I-max 2000 both different animals I know so I will be doing a little research on weather I need to get my signal up or out for the best reception/performance. I am just waiting for my frequency counter to arrive and give it a bash with my trusty old red devil which is a permanent fit on my 4x4 pick up only until I make up my mind which big chap I will go for. As for the coax I was only wondering if there was a better low loss cable to use as some rg8 I have been told is rubbish dependant on manufacturer and this is what I want keep away from, are there any good brand names to use over others ?

I also agree with the RG213. get about 10ft more than you need as this will make good patch leads also. Andy 26FB591
