CRE 8900 Power Output
Hello Everyone.
I have a CRE 8900 10 meter radio which in all fairness is working a treat. But I'm just curious regarding the output of these radio's. Some read ups say they are capable of around 25-40 watts ssb and 15-20 am/fm. My set gives around 8 watts am/fm and around 10-12 ssb. This isn't a problem as I run a B300p amp alongside and obviously I'm in no danger of over driving it. Does anyone else have one of these radios and if so what is your output? Also does anyone have any idea as to how to increase the output safely if I want to push my amp a little more? Thanks.

Re: CRE 8900 Power Output
Doesn't that radio have a variable power output control?

Re: CRE 8900 Power Output
Hi,
Yes it does. The power of my particular radio is as quoted with the power turned full up.

Re: CRE 8900 Power Output
I know this is an old thread but I just purchased the new Alinco DX-10 which is a rebranded CRE-8900 and yes, AM dead key is right at 10 watts. Average SSB is about 10 watts too. If I whistle into the mic it will swing up to 22 watts. But yes, it's set rather conservativally to what it potentially can, should or will do. BTW thes numbers are with the power knob turned all the way up. Turning it down will AM deatkey 2 watts. I'm going to buy an amplifier to increase the output and this way I don't have to push the radio. But I would have liked more power out of the box.
On a side note this is really the best talking radio I have ever owned. I just added an old Turner Plus Three desk mic to it and the reports I get are amazing.
So there you ahve it and how the radio works two years after this thread was started.
Regards,
Lisa

Re: CRE 8900 Power Output
So sorry for the tardy reply Porky69. Actually any small Amp would do. Any good recommendations? I would rather have an amp then overdrive the radio as it's a fabulous talker. The reality is I don't want to put a lot of money in an amp as the radio really gets out well in a stock form and with the quantity of contacts I make it's fun to say I do it on a stock radio. But all my contacts are in the USA right now and I would love to "cross the pond" as they say. My 10 meter rig has a 100 watts and it goes everwhere with that power so that is what I would like ot have for 11 meter work.
Suggestions and where to get one is always good advice.

Re: CRE 8900 Power Output
Hi Lisa, a great little amp is the RM-KL203P. Its 100watts output and comes with a pre-amp, i think its 10watts max input so you would have to make sure you turned down the power of your radio when using it. You would have to look online to find a stockist that was the cheapest to ship the radio to you, maybe there are stockists in the USA?? Heres a link to RM's web site >>KL-203P<<
