Re: 26FB001 Shack pics August 2016

After 2 winters out in my shack (heating on now and then) my 570dg neeeded sending away for condensation damage. Its suprising how wet it gets inside a radio once its been on for a while inside a cold shack...

Ive done some tests using an old cb rig and even though it worked the underside of the top cover was wet and often the channel window and signal meter would condensate.
My radios are all quickly installed and then removed when it gets cold out there and they come inside in the warm when not in use..

I have a heater on one side of the shack and a de-humidifier on the other, keeps everything cosy - and dry emoticon
Also have 2 fridges in there now, one for beer and one for meat for the bbq!

Tube heaters placed close to the radios may help too...but im taking no chances after seeing photos from martin lynches of inside my 570dg with corroded solder joints.

Some of the copper had also started to go green as oxygen and damp cold air created a patina.

The lack of air movement around the radios is the main issue,if the air can move freely by not having equipment packed together tightly it may help..

The shack is all carpeted including the walls to keep warm and for sound proofing, its all boxed in with a double thick heavy curtain as the door way.

I use dehumidifier bags to trap any moisture and keep it all dry emoticon

That is some impressive radio station.
Regarding the damp, the dehumidifier would probably be the most efficient, electricity-wise. Bung it on a timer and run it for 2 - 4 hours at the time of evening when the dew starts to form.
