hi steve, not really a hf radio i think they cover 25-28/29mhz. It will get you on 11meters for some dx and they are a good CB SSB radio. Hooked up with a decent power mic the TX audio is pretty good, and a pretty decent reciever too. the 2970 is the high power version but you can hook the 2950 up to a amp and your away, make sure its all on frequency if your gettin a second hand one and ask the seller as many questions about the radio you can think of. If you get a good one youll be sorted emoticon

Re: Ranger RCI-2950 DX

I had the 2970dx, 150 watts and was well pleased with it, it did get hot though on full power. I now have a Kenwood TS480sat with 100watts and this would blow the Ranger away! Looking back I dont think the Ranger got anywhere near its claimed 150watts! Now I have lots to listen to and work when 11m is dead.

Re: Ranger RCI-2950 DX

hi, i did the same, bought a superstar3900, works great and has all the bits i wanted, it was however more expensive than the hf rig i have now and i wish i had just gone and bought this one first, as it opens up all the other frequencies even if its just for listening!

hi mate.great 11 metre radio but these are selling for 175 up.i wolud have been made up to make the 130 back on my beloved lincoln(very similar radio) that did 10,11,and 12 meters but thanks to the kind ebayer who paid me 215 sheets for it last weekend,i can now whip in nice full HF radio without putting any of my own brass in.try something like a yaesu 747gx for around £160 as your first radio rather than the ranger.

Never had bad reports on my 2950 dx mk3 works better than many cheap ssb cb radios, but obviously a icom etc is going to be better.
