Joining 2 poles?
Which is the best way to join 2 (or more) 2inch scaffolding poles together? I have seen 2 types of joiners-one fits inside the 2 poles, the other clamps on the outside of the 2 poles.
Also, if anyone has any spare ones I would be interested!

Re: Joining 2 poles?
Hi Al i have a spare outside clamp but i'm not sure what the postage will be as its quiet heavy, i have only ever used the outside clamps myself. i must admit that i wouldnt clamp 2 20 foot scaffold poles together with one unless i had guy ropes connected aswell. i will weigh the clamp and se what the postage will be..
*edit*well my scales say its 1840g with out packaging and royal mail are saying First class £6.60 and Standard parcel £4.50. Its here if you want it, ive got 2 of them and i just bought a 40 foot tenna mast so wont be using them both(or any i expect as i have loads of long poles now, lol)

Re: Joining 2 poles?
Hi Al, I have some poles joined together too, I always go for the inside method by sliding a smaller pole with a smaller diameter down into the main pole, leave a meter or so out of the top, put a bolt through it then slide the other main pole over the top of that and bolt it, if the inside pole has a diameter too small, cut a few bits of plastic water pipe down the middle to make spacers. I do it this way so I can slide the pole up the 'K' brackets with the 'U' bolts on, you may need a different method if your mast is going to be a lot taller. For added strength in your case with heavy scaffold poles maybe you would need to use both methods?

Re: Joining 2 poles?
Thanks for the offer and the advice-liked the welding method but my welding wouldnt hold up! I have now fixed the rotator to the pump up mast thats up about 40ft and guyed so am a happy chappy again now. Will use the scaffolding poles to cut the hedges (so I been told )

Re: Joining 2 poles?
I dont know about not designed for it. if they could get them longer for scaffolding and transport them then youd get them longer. I've been welding them together for over twenty years and they've never failed at welds, just bent over if overstressed, the welds if tappered are stronger than the stock material. John193

Re: Joining 2 poles?
i also WELD mine, i use a short solid bar inside the two scaffolding poles 'if i can find one' scrapyards are good for this...eg a bit of axle...then just weld them together...obviously you need to make sure they are straight first....or you end up with a heavy metal banana.

Re: Joining 2 poles?
I just cut them off with a diagonal slice about 8" long then weld the seams. I put a pic of my 7elly beam bent over double and guess what? the weld held! so I agree with Mark Weld the buggers and have done with it. Dave I would use an amp if I could
