"You cannae change the laws of physics." It is possible to receive 'good' signals on 80/40m with a bit of wire stuck in the back of the rig, because although the received signal may be 30dB below a dipole (for example), the radio can still hear it as the background noise is also less to the same degree - you are only up against receiver front-end noise, which is low. However, if you were to tune the bit of wire and transmit, your signal would then be 30dB down on most other stations out there, and I doubt you'd be heard above the atmospherics. That's my general view on compact antennas, anyway. nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hot Fusion)Wed, 23 Nov 2011 19:11:33 +0000 Re: Miracle Whiphttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p20016,from=rss#post20016https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p20016,from=rss#post20016Just to add my thoughts. All antennas work to some degree... But what are you comparing it to: 1. A pube 2. a dipole 3. a long wire the list goes on.. I hear so many people saying there antenna works great.. Thats good, but have they another antenna to compare it with. The miracle whip will perform, but not to any degree. just listen to the Ham bands and I bet you can count on one hand the operators using one. For those who do not know, the Miracle Whip is a self-contained, all-band, 57-inch telescoping whip antenna with integrated tuner. quote:The Miracle Whip liberates your rig from coax, cables, mounts, tripods and trees, and gives you remarkable performance- including DX - from desktop to picnic table, and can even do it without a ground. Now that's portable! It covers from 3.5 MHz to 460MHz with no gaps on TX & slightly more on RX, but without extra wire crocodile clipped to the top of the antenna, I have yet to use mine below 6.6MHz on TX, but with about 10 meters of wire & an extra earth radial, mine happily tunes up around 3MHz - 4 MHz. I would personally say that as a TX antenna it does the job better than you would expect a HF antenna of this size to, but as an RX antenna it is truly amazing. nondisclosed_email@example.com (crimso)Thu, 13 Aug 2009 21:00:26 +0000
