1FB175 new aerial ( finally ) :)
Helloooooooo everybody ! I'm pleased to tell you'll that i have my new aerial !
Nothing special, just a 1/2 Lambda, vertical one but :
it's very high
obstacles clear
I did some rx test and well, gained 3db also, as short-circuited antenna, less noise !!
here's a picture of it. As i said, nothing special but i'm very pleased to as i gained lots !

Re: 1FB175 new aerial ( finally ) :)
I will be on air for the event !
Also i will tell you that i just finished to make my first magnetic loop antenna.
by some experiments the magnetic loop work fine, NO noises at all, very quite and clear his rx because you know, this particular antenna work by magnetic things, not electric, so noises free
it's also a bit directional, by a test i gained from S7 to S9+10db on local qso by turning it on the right direction.
Oh yes, still the loop is inside my shack and i clearly received a station from South Africa, at Mhz. INfact, this particular antenna will work ( 'cause his dimensions also the calculated capacitor ) from 14Mhz to 28Mhz.
At this moment the tuning is "by hand" and it's very critical. Just one degree of variable capacitor movement is equal to about 50Khz !!
So maybe with a "step by step" electric engine...

Helloooo and thanks for the question
I did a little search about you antenna :
The Solarcon 99 antenna is by far the best selling CB radio Base station antenna on the market. It's easy to use, easy to tune, and easy to install.
*
1/2 wave over 1/4
*
Omni-Directional
*
Fiberglass (weather tough)
*
Handles 2000 Watts (peak) about 1000 RMS
*
SWR Tunable, 25-32 Mhz.
*
Covers far above and below the traditional CB channels
*
Solarcon claims 9.9 dBi, we believe it to be closer to 3.9 dBi Gain.
*
DC Grounded <---------
*
18' Tall ( Three 6' Sections )
*
Insulated up to 14,500 Volts
*
UPS Shippable
It say : DC Grounded so you don't have anything to do because your antenna is already "short circuited"
If it's you first antenna, there's a few things to know and TO DO :
first of all, check all the screws, bolts, nuts etc etc and change em all by stainless steel. Please do it.
If the antenna elements are plugged one by each other by a simple screw ( remember to change it by a same dimension, stainless steel ) put on a stainless steel "clamp".
here a link of what i'm talking about :
http://www.directindustry.it/prod/tridon-clamp-products-gmbh/fascetta-stringitubo-tutto-in-acciaio-inossidabile-58764-390220.html
Always place a piece of binding tape on your antenna junctions and, over it, a normal duct tape piece. This will make care of antenna junctions for years. I mean rain, humidity etc.
make a "coaxial chocke coil" ! it will preserve by power returning. I don't mean r.o.s. thing, i mean leakage by coax cable shield, so tv interferences etc etc.
what's a "coaxial chocke coil" ? easy ! make a coil of 10 turns with your coax cable on a diameters of 15 centimeters.
what ! i said centimeters ! oh no ! i mean 5.90551 inches !
Please do it, and you'll be safe for years.
Again, if its your first antenna, please feel free to ask me somm and i will do my best

Re: 1FB175 new aerial ( finally ) :)
Hello
I'm sorry but i've forgot to tell you that the coax "Choke" coil must be placed VERY closed to the antenna connector..else it will be useless.
