Re: PSU popping fuses
which fuse is popping, is it the mains fuse ? is the fuse the correct rating ?
is the power supply a dreaded switchmode or is it a linear supply ' with a nice big transformer '........
the most common cause of a blown mains fuse is either the transformer windings are shorting out....or the bridge rectifier has gone short circuit..
if you can give me some more info ..perhaps we can sort it out.

Re: PSU popping fuses
hi john, theres not much really to a typical power supply...it shouldnt be to difficult at all to repair so long as the transformer isnt damaged ' eg the windings arnt shorting '.....
john if you can..unconnect the transformer from the bridge rectifier this normally consists of unsoldering the transformer wires... and take a reading from the transformer it should be around 18 volts A.C. if you have this voltage and the transformer isnt blowing fuses then the rest is easy-peasy.
let me know how you get on with the voltage measurement. and if you cant sort it out perhaps, if you wanted to you could pop it down to me one weekend, to repair, im near blackwood.

Re: PSU popping fuses
as mark said there's not much to a linear psu, if the transformer has blown then its pretty much junk after that, usual way to blow the transformer is to overheat them and the enamel on the windings melts and they short out. Like mark said if your getting around 18 volts out of the transformer then it's ok. Just a thought, if your close by to Dave 001 or John 193, maybe one of those guys might take a look for you. They'll love me for volunteering them, hehe.
