AM Sked/Net

There seems to be some interest on a couple of the other threads to have a go at some sort of AM Sked - especially if it means digging out an old AM Chicken Box!

I've a few old rigs that could do with some use, so I'd certainly give it a go.

If there's enough interest, maybe choose a Sunday afternoon sometime - might even turn into a regular net.

Cheers
Gary

I'm in. Be nice not to have to listen to loads of white-noise four hours on end (FM) and still not hear anyone worth a QSO with.

Date and Time Please.

Oh, I'll have to do it static mobile though so hope it's not on a feckin cold day!!!

Good idea, why not do a banner, choose a date time, Sunday afternoon is always good I think emoticon

I'll put it up on the website, publisise it a bit, should be good fun emoticon

Re: AM Sked/Net

Just to be awkward, can I suggest we do it late in the evening/early hours, maybe on a Saturday night?

I know the sunspots are weak at the moment, but nothing destroys 'back of the box' copies like high powered itallian sideband - you will need absolute silence on the band for these long distance ground-wave contacts, which will probably mean operating mobile, and this is what I'd be doing.

I well remember the good old days of hilltop link-ups, and this was during a sunspot maximum:
You'd have to wait until about 11:00pm (almost to the minute) for the S9+ 'skip' to die down, and then you had a really low noise floor with no continental QRM - you really could hear for miles, and I wanna do it again! I have the old Ham International Multimodes cracked out and working again, so I'm ready. emoticon

Maybe a nice warm summer evening/night?

Yep, mobile with a silver rod on a pole strapped to a farmer's gatepost.

I take it that we agree to a little RF boosting where it is felt to be beneficial? emoticon

Re: AM Sked/Net

I've wired up a big old vintage base microphone to the Royce 619 today to get that authentic 70's sound!

I'll be piping it through an amp to get about 100w, so QRP isn't on the agenda.

What about Easter for the Sked? - please cast your votes for which day/time. Probably daytime would be best to suit the hill-toppers, but we can always arrange further skeds or maybe run a night net sometime in the future.

Cheers

Am up for a bit of AM, have my old Colt black shadow here somewhere if it still works, if not will have to use my Kenwood-not the same but will have to do. Are we using call signs or the old CB handles? Can make a run for the hills at short notice, should be interesting! Easter would be good, looking forward to it.

Nice one.

A few old AM rigs floating around on eBay - nothing better than having a reason to buy another radio!

Call signs/handles no worries, use either or both.

Any preferences for which channel?

Cheers

How about [sign in to see URL]?
This is channel 8 high.

Within the unallocated freebanding segment between the top of the old AM channels and the start of the UK FM channels.

Not sure about easter - still going to be cold on those hilltops, but as said we could always try again later in the year.

EDIT:
Just occurred to me that maybe some want to use AM rigs that only operate on the mid block - lut us know if you do and we can chose a frequency to accommodate this.
