SWL scanning aircraft
I'm fairly new to scanning, at least I'm new to finding commercial radio to swl.
I live fairly near to RAF Cosford, I have many aircraft including air ambulance go over during the days, some fast jets too. Now, I have the equipment but usually on a different band. But I thought it would be interesting to swl some of the aircraft or the tower thats obviously using radio comms.
Can I do this?
If so how and where do I find them?
Some conflicting information on the internet and most of it about air shows which is once a year and not relevant.
Help with this please

Re: SWL scanning aircraft
You should find some traffic on the usual air band freq's, 110 - 135 Mhz I think, could be either AM or FM, have a scan around using 5Khz steps or 12.5Kz. This will be the usual mundane air band traffic, headings, altitude, other aircraft they need to be aware of, that kind of stuff.
As it's a military base, there should be traffic between 200 - 400Mhz, which might be more interesting. Never listened to this though, both my old scanner (Pro 2006) and my 706IIG have this freq range blocked out.
Sorry for the vaigness, I gave up and sold my scanner when the police went to tetra. I have flown close to Bries Norton in a light aircraft and we had to contact the ATC there, so I'm pretty sure that they use the standard air band freq's.
Maybe you could pick up an old scanner directory from somewhere, might give you an idea of some freq's to listen to.
