Height is not really a consideration of dx because your signal propogates(bounces)back to earth from an ionised layer in the atmosphere when dxing but it is essentiall in line of sight contacts ie fm and simply ssb to ssb contacts i.e me to you.however.height is major advantage in getting away from noise and so youll hear everything from anywhere. best thing to do when looking for a good dx spot is to find one without noise, and for dxing have a good "take off " i.e 2000 ft but flat for miles may seem good but 700 ft with a sheer drop to the sea is better.and see hills to rear as an advantage e.g when im dx ing to the west,i position a hill behind me to block incoming noise from the east and so on. nondisclosed_email@example.com (26fb99)Sat, 29 May 2010 13:32:11 +0000 Re: starting againhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p13825,from=rss#post13825https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p13825,from=rss#post13825  Nice one Paul! I would go for 100watt amp as they are cheapish and just se how you get on.  I wouldnt of thought there would be a great deal of difference if you moved your anntena from the boot to the roof(for skip, groundwave may be more effected)), if anything a solid fixed mount is better earthed than a magmount. nondisclosed_email@example.com (topbuzzuk)Wed, 19 May 2010 11:16:20 +0000 Re: starting againhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p13682,from=rss#post13682https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p13682,from=rss#post13682Hi Paul and welcome. I use a mag mount in the centre of the roof but if you use yours same as me, static mobile, why not get a cheap base aerial -silver rod, A99 or similar and find a post or drive on mast, much better than a mobile whip I have found. Back in the day, 12 - 25 watts was the norm but 100watts seems normal these days. If conditions are good you wont even need yours on full power though!
