posticon hello from the east of england

hello from unclejessie!!

hi, just to say hello from the east of englands latest dxer[26FB133] and to let you all know how pleased i am to have found you!. like a lot of others i am a born again cber from the late 70s when cb was "illigal" and we did things like meet up and socialise at our local club and hide in local countryside whilst others tried to find us by driving around whilst watching rf meters get stronger or weaker!. I now tell my daughter off for spending hours on MSN and constantly warn her to not meet strangers ect, just the things that i did then!. anyways, i will be on air soon and hope to speak to some of you soon, thanks, uncle jessie.

Hello Uncle Jessie and welcome to the forum and to the FB Dx group emoticon

Some returnees, like myself, and some long term experience around here, any help you need just ask emoticon

I remember the old fox hunts, blimin good laugh on a Sunday afternoon, dozens of cars with aerials on running around the countryside emoticon I ran a CB club way back in the 1970's called The Rebels, I lived in Kent then and we used to regularly do fox hunts, treasure hunts etc. happy days.

CB has pretty much been taken over by the idiots nowdays, apart from 11 metre DX that is, the 11 metre band is the best international radio band, I reckon, better than all the ham bands.

thanks for the reply, i noticed on the main site that there is to be an easter dx, but not alot of details as far as what time it starts etc, does ssb work better at night? can i expect good performance from a mobile set up or do i need to be home based? many many questions!

yes you could say that i am a fan, also smokey and the bandit, every which way but loose, convoy, stunt guy, happy days, mork and mindey, the sweeney, ect ect ect, myself and others have been known to drive and own very large american cars and trucks[including a 1968 dodge charger!] and wear cowboy hats! hope i dont get thrown off the forum/club for that!.

hi, i'll try and answer the first one, SSB is usually better in the daytime. FM is a lot clearer at night but noisy(interference)in the daytime. if it was up to me we would all be using SSB and scrap the FM, we would have some good local DX on SSB in the night times.. as for mobile setups, these can be alot better than a homebase, in my opinion. you can get your antenna alot higher by being able to drive up big hills, and if you take a homebase antenna or a full 1/4 wave whip with you, you will be booming out.

i dont know about the homepage issue, i'm sure someone will shed some light.

well, i have all 3 smokey and the bandits on dvd, i have convoy on vhs but my missis is going to buy me the dvd version. i too love yank tanks, last year i had to sell them as i lost my parking spaces, 77 cadillac fleetwood, 89 cadillac coupe deville, and my fave was a 78 chrysler coupe. i'm not the cowboy hat wearing type though, more the lowriding stereo thumping type. se what the summer brings, i always end up buying something when the sun comes out emoticon

I reckon thats great stuff, why not? Theres an awful lot of boring old farts about makes one feel good to hear about folks having a good laugh emoticon

The Easter DX thing is mostly run by the TM Dx group. We are good friends with them and speak with lots of TM Dxers. The DX Super Sunday started off as a PMR exercise beleive it or not. A web site that specialises in PMR, decided to hold a DX Super Sunday. Many TM members then joined in and it sort of evolved into a 11metre thing.

Its not run by the TM group but they're the biggest participators.

What usually happens is that on a particular Sunday, this ones Easter, people go mobile up them there hills and try to make not only long distance but more local DX. Some take big antennas and amp with them. Me? I stay at home. I still like to try and speak with those taking ppart.

Mostly its a bit hit and miss on 27555, but there is 27005 am and 27025 usb as well. Its agreat chance for those that dont have big equipment as well as there can be quite a network around the UK.
