THAT ^^^ in and of itself is the main reason that once you get your ham ticket that there is no real viable reason to go back to any operating activity that puts your ham ticket in jeopardy.

Even if you have a Foundation ticket, you did put some work and study into obtaining it. A foundation ticket, even with it's power limitations gives you FAR more frequencies in the ham bands to operatate on than a USA Novice, Technician, or even General class licencee!!! (and General class can operate 1.5 KW on what frequencies they CAN operate on.) Here, not until one passes the amateur EXTRA class do they even get the bottom 25 kHz of 80, 40, 20, and 15 meters--where most ALL of the juciest DX hangs out! I would hate to lose my licence working some DX station on 27 mHZ frequencies that are not legal in my country. It wouldn't be worth it at all, and I only have a General Class.

As for "plenty of people who despise hams"...that is very sad, in reality, and really doesn't make any sense to me, and I am not quoting that as anything negative against the guy who wrote it.

Those who studied for their ham test and passed it know it's no walk in the park. It's hard, and it's supposed to be. Countries want those who want the PRIVELIDGE of using valuable frequency space to know the rules, regulations, and laws and pass a test so that government is satisfied that should that ham later break those laws, that there is a price to pay.

It also proves that in a local, regional, or national emergency that that ham can fix his own radio (hopefully), build a small transciever out of parts, build their own antenna, and know enough about propagation and band characteristics to get a message from point A to point B at a time it matters most...when someone's life may depend on it.

There are no such requirements for CB and it was never intended to be. CB has always been intended for local folks in a local area to get on and have some fun. There's nothing wrong with that.

For CB'ers (or even FB'ers) to hate hams makes no sense to me. The other way around, the only hams I know that don't like CB'ers are the CB'ers that deliberately wander into the ham bands and act like they belong there. They stick out like a 100 foot tall red windmill in a cornfield. As long as they stay below 28.000 mHZ, I don't care what they do.

To hate hams makes no sense...it's like seeing your neighbor flying a single engine Cessna airplane and hating him for passing his private pilot's licence. If they had put the study & effort into passing the same tests, they may find out just how cool it is to fly as well.

The #1 reason I LOVE being part of this forum's community is that unlike other forums CB's aren't blasting and name-calling hams and hams aren't blasting and name-calling CB'ers!!!! It's completely civilized here, and I tip my hat the the founder and moderators for making it THAT kind of environment...well done!

If there's anything I can do here, I feel that if I can help someone build a better antenna, help someone with propagation, if I can help someone solve an RFI problem, then I have made some sort of minor positive contribution to the board. Some might see that as "well..those hams aren't so bad afterall."

Re: Gw0wvl '163FB20' working into Borneo on 20 mtrs

I see NO problem with the call, this is because i dont use SSB on 11 mtrs anymore, although i do use FM on the mid band, i dont use the old 27/81 band anymore as there are to many idiots around here to have a decent qso with.

So as you can therefore see theres nothing illegal or wrong with anyone using the legal bands and using there call sign, be the bands on the ham-bands or cb radio as long as they have the licence to do it..

So basically if you do nothing illegal youve nothing to worry or care about, its that simple really.

Re: Gw0wvl '163FB20' working into Borneo on 20 mtrs

I've seen this LPWS web site and they seem to have a burr up their ass for some reason but for the life of me on that site I can't tell why.

The amateurs in court page only has two actual cases about hams on the air...the rest are about civil or other criminal cases where their being a ham was mentioned as an aside and it truly had zero bearing on the case involved that they cited. If someone in the UK was arrested for public drunkeness would the newspaper story also mention "oh, by the way he's a CB'er? Pretty stupid, really.

They also hide in annonimity and throw rocks from the dark. Who gives any creedence to that?

Re: Gw0wvl '163FB20' working into Borneo on 20 mtrs

As Bruce has said and thanks for the comments, some people DO have a Burr up there Ass, i really cant see what the argument is with some people.

If i want to give my call sign/s that up to me, Nothing illegal has taken place.

Gw0wvl IS a legal callsign for the ham bands, and 163FB20 is a legal call for the Mid band using FM and the legal 4 watts.

Obviously if i were to use a Illegal mode or Band then this is where problems could arise. But i dont, so people stop going on and on about it....
