KL 500 RM CB LINEAR AMP (FAULTY)

Just seen this on Ebay, and its local to me, any idea as to what could be the problem with it? Would it be worth buying at the right price? What do you think?

As long as its not the power transistors at fault, the rest is a easy repair.

Hmmm...
He was using it with "only 5 watts input" or words to that effect. Surely that would have driven the thing to full output? And on FM it would have given the amp a caning.

Mabe just an internal fus, but I don't know if this model has such a refinement.

Maybe risk it for a biscuit, but not much more.

hi hot fusion. 5 watts should be ok! dont forget that amp has 4 sd1446! so 5 watts would be about 1.25 watts each!! from my experiences with the bigger rm amps its best to stay away from!! usually its the transistors! and at £25 each!!!!!!!! x 4 is about a £100 depending on were you get them! normally if there is no out put its normally the fuse that has blown! caused by blown/shorted transistors and what ever else it has wiped out along the way! the way i look at it is if that amp sold for say £70 just an example! plus £100 for the transistors plus a few quid for what ever else! total about £180 and thats if it works you can get a new one for £2o5!!! hope that some use to you? 73s.

"just closed down" there are 3 internal fuses next to eachother, maybe one of those popped? i bought one (not working) a bit of soldering and its sorted.
33 amp current drain.

Re: KL 500 RM CB LINEAR AMP (FAULTY)

hi
i have a kl500 and have just smoked it a little
i didnt check my output power on my radio on fm it puts out 25w lol and max input for the kl 500 is only 15w so it smoked a little bit
from the resistors it is still working fine i relised just in time about the power input
but now ive just gone out and got new resistors to renew worn out ones
these resistors are 60ohms 2w and 100ohms 2w
there are 6 in all to be replaced
just happy that the resistors took the bateering and it didnt damage the rf transistors has these are very expensive
and a pain in the ass to fit
so if you have smoked one and it does still work please renew the resistors cause if you dont they will blow your hf transistors
resistors are only 49p from maplins
transistors will cost you over £100
so the answer to the one for sale on ebay is avoid
Buy a new one you know it aint been messed with
i am very happy with my kl500 it works fine giving me 600w ssb across the pond 30+ state side

hi
it seems that i put a little to much power input into it and had it smoking a little
it is stll working and i am about to renew 8 resistors
but on looking closer ive found that it is now only doing 250w output
i have noticed that 3 resistors have gone down on the variable power switch board
so i think this is why it wont go to full power on the power switch
i have checked the symantic diagrams on you web site but it only shows the main board not the variable switch board
i need to know the values of the resistors on this board to replace the ones that have burnt out
so i can opperate at full power again please have you got a diagram and values of theese resistors
many thanks if you can help
kind regards
