It then appears from this image the 7400 has capacity for two amps, for different bands I'm guessing. Check the manual, but lets say we're going to connect to amp 1, using a phono style pug check when keying up that the VE+ is the centre, probably is, then connect the centre pin to the VE+ on the amp and the outer to the VE-. Check the voltages, but this should crank up the linear. Use CW and low power to start bwith. Tune amp for max output before cranking up driver to 100W nondisclosed_email@example.com (yamanx1)Fri, 29 Oct 2010 16:55:14 +0000 Re: connecting a linearhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15509,from=rss#post15509https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15509,from=rss#post15509You dont "need" an ALC cable but you do need the relay connection. (phono style plugs usually) The ALC cable is design so you cant overdrive the l;inear in SSB mode, mine is turned off anyway So 16v to 16v it sounds like.nondisclosed_email@example.com (yamanx1)Fri, 29 Oct 2010 16:42:14 +0000 Re: connecting a linearhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15506,from=rss#post15506https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15506,from=rss#post15506tnx for reply all my patch leads are new and i am havin a prob with earth as the shack is at the front of the house and earth rod 75ft away as i stated on another post anyway iv looked throught both manuals and looked on the net and its givin me no advise or instructions as to hook up this amp to my 7400 safely so much for the internet its in the manual for the radio the alc input is 0v-4v & the send relay is 16v/dc-0.5A the amp keying line is rated @ 16v / 125ma all i want to know can the linear be connected to radio with or without relay cable  73s DAVE 29FB129nondisclosed_email@example.com (DAVE129)Fri, 29 Oct 2010 08:31:26 +0000 Re: connecting a linearhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15502,from=rss#post15502https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15502,from=rss#post15502Wow Dave! fab amp First off, my strong advice, which I may be teaching you to suck eggs, but please make sure ALL your coax and patch lead connections are sound before using this kind of welly, all your kit needs to be tip top and double checked, plenty of earth. The voltage here is massive! You will need a switch lead, the keying of the mic wont activate this amp, its activated by a seperate switch, the lead is usually a phono type lead between radio and amp. Please read all the manuals for both radio and PA as there will be some settings on the radio that will be important when using large amps. Yes, to your question it is best to have an in line protection, but wont stop you using the PA, I dont have one in line here, but it is probably a good idea. Look forward to hearing you more often then nondisclosed_email@example.com (yamanx1)Thu, 28 Oct 2010 21:22:19 +0000 connecting a linearhttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15499,from=rss#post15499https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p15499,from=rss#post15499hi guys can ye help iv a yaesu fL2100b linear amp and i need info how to connect it to my icom 7400 do i need a buffer relay in line between radio and amp id be greatfull for any help   DAVE 29FB129nondisclosed_email@example.com (DAVE129)Thu, 28 Oct 2010 19:29:24 +0000
