Poorly Cobra 148GTL DX
Hi All
Just bought a Cobra 148GTL DX quite cheep off of ebay sold as seen with a Colt 485 DX Black shadow thrown in for good meaesure(that will be the next project), It`s a bit tatty but will look OK when cleaned up and stuff.
Wired up a std coffin mike for it but it won`t transmit at all, just not switching, even plugged a morse key in the back and nothing, although I can hear it keying through the speaker. Any one on here have a good knowledge of this board? where do I start, have DVM at the ready and will appreciate any help or advice am sure it will be a cracker once sorted.
Thanks in advance

Re: Poorly Cobra 148GTL DX
try txing into an antenna with another rig at hand on the same frequency, if you get a weak signal on the "other" set, your outputs are shot but the driver is ok! search google for mods and repairs, may just be a simple diode gone awol.

Re: Poorly Cobra 148GTL DX
Is it a mk1 or a mk2 148?
Does it change channel OK on receive mode? i.e. does the PLL appear to be locked and the radio is on the channel you expect?
Does the TX/Rx light turn red when you key the mike?
There's lots of reasons it might not want to go into Tx mode.
You can get a circuit diagram and service manual here

Re: Poorly Cobra 148GTL DX
More info is needed as others have said, also RD250 has some good points for you to follow.
Is the radio recieving ok. if so is it working on all bands and modes, does everything work as it should OTHER that the Transmit.
When you key-up will the TX light go from red to green and visa-versa.
If you can give a bit more info then im sure one of us will help you out.

Even though the Cobra is a CB radio its still a compex thing.
