ANYONE REMEMBER THIS

I have put this old SWR/PWR meter on another thread but I thought I'd give it its own I found this while having a sort out I remember buying it about early to mid 80's but cant find the owners manual for it and now forgot how it works as such it not like a normal SWR/PWR meter it only has one control knob on the front no SET/REF switch and I know it reads up 500wats even though it says on the meter 50 all I can remember is it all depends were you set that knob that's how you find out the SWR/PWR, I found one on a CB Museum website but it was all in French and even when I put on my computer translator it still didn't make much sense emoticon so has anyone seen one or remember one of these

Re: ANYONE REMEMBER THIS

It is not a power meter, and not intended to be one. You can get a rough idea of power level by keying up a known 4 watt rig and setting the POWER needle to read 4 using the knob. Any higher power would be indicated on the needle as long as you didn't move the knob. To read higher powers, you could calibrate using the same 4 watt rig but this time set the needle to read, say, 1. This time, whatever the meter reads you multiply that by 4 to get the actal power. Not very accurate, but it would give you an idea.

The correct way to use this meter is to key up the rig and set the POWER meter to read full, or 50 in this case. The SWR can then be read directly off the other meter.

The reason it doesn't have the fwd/ref switch is that it doesn't need it. Cheaper units only have one meter and you have to select what you want it to display - forward or reflected reading. With this one it reads both at the same time - yippee!!.

Probably a pretty good unit, so be nice to it! emoticon
