Decent answers depend a lot on answers to these questions, and the type of antenna used may also make a difference. I've found no improvement in earthing any of my gear to a dedicated earth point, but I do use a vertical antenna with a fair few buried radials - this serves as a decent earth for the radio in my case. 12 volt PSUs can simply be earthed via the mains. Here's a generic answer: An ATU will share the same earth as the radio as the coax braid is the connection between them - don't add another earth as there is no point. Simply earth the ATU to your earth rod and the rest will follow electrically. If you are using a DC ground antenna like a GP27 half-wave, earthing the support mast will also do the job. Beware of PME issues if you have a PME installation. It should be prominently marked at the meter/fuse box. If you have a PME installation, our advice will be different for safety reasons so let us know.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hot Fusion)Mon, 28 Feb 2011 23:18:00 +0000 Re: Earthing Radios and atu'shttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17379,from=rss#post17379https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17379,from=rss#post17379Dont loop earths, Not sure why, but have one earth, and take a feed off the earth point to each bit of kit. maybe something to do with noise. nondisclosed_email@example.com (26FB332)Mon, 28 Feb 2011 22:11:23 +0000 Re: Earthing Radios and atu'shttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17378,from=rss#post17378https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17378,from=rss#post17378hi matt, i have my radio earth straight to atu earth, then off to distribution block out to ground spike nondisclosed_email@example.com (topbuzzuk)Mon, 28 Feb 2011 16:21:25 +0000 Re: Earthing Radios and atu'shttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17377,from=rss#post17377https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17377,from=rss#post17377just realised ive put this in the wrong place cuz im an idiot, if a mod could move it to a more convenient place id be very great full nondisclosed_email@example.com (Matt1977)Mon, 28 Feb 2011 13:20:52 +0000 Earthing Radios and atu'shttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17376,from=rss#post17376https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p17376,from=rss#post17376Hi All Just a quick question.....Is it ok to earth my atu and my radio to the same earth wire? can I have a wire coming from my radio to my atu then to my earth? I was told to have to separate earth wires but the guy who told me isn't so knowledgeable when it comes to stuff like this so I thought id make sure. 73's Mattnondisclosed_email@example.com (Matt1977)Mon, 28 Feb 2011 13:17:14 +0000
