The crazy heat


Man it's hot today which is nice but I cant use my radio because it's set up in my attic and it's like a sauna up there, So heres my [sign in to see URL] no windows in my attic and jesus it get hot up there, Will this do any harm to my radios? Good question, not sure on the answer though tbh. I use an outside shack, it has been well over 40 degrees in here before now, and no problems. My worry was the other extreme, last winter it was -22 in here one day! But no ill effects as far as I can tell emoticon

Well I couldent take it anymore so I moved into the small spare bedroom, Much cooler in here and I got a window to look out emoticon I'll get some photos of my shack up soon cos I know you all like photos.

i thought about using the loft as a shack but this is exactly why i didnt. toooo hot in the summer even if you can keep it warm in the winter.. and it was hot down here today emoticon

I can't see the heat of the loft really causing any problems with your gear, but if you use an amplifer just make sure it doesn't overheat as the higher ambient temperatures will mean it can't get rid of its heat so well - maybe a fan would help in this case.

I remember hearing years ago that certain radios could drift off frequency in hot temps. Anyway I have moved the shack now and im much cooler and there are less spiders in here.

its that hot in the loft my cable to the light up there has gone very soft due to the heat

Possible, but I doubt it would be very much.
And the rig would drift back on frequency again as it cooled down, so not a permanent change.
