FB calling frequency

I know we used to have 27585 as a FB frequency, but this is just too busy during periods with good propagation. 30 division uses this frequency for something, I know, and other “close to 27555” frequencies are choka block during times when it might be possible to make some FB to FB DX contacts.

I have been asked by a few guys in NA to allocate a frequency that they can call for FB members, a sort of dedicated FB calling frequency. That way if theres decent propagation we can make calls to other FB stations on 11m.

But I suggest its located somewhere we call all access and a decent distance away from 27555 where most stations qsy to.

Say 27275 maybe?

What do you think?

275 is on the mid-block, and when the skip comes rolling in, SSB on that channel will be near impossible.

I think it needs to be somewhere between the AM mid-block and the start of the CB 27/81 block.

Maybe 27.415 - channel 1 on the high block?

Re: FB calling frequency

Yes I've had a listen on there and I agree to noisey. But 415 is too "near" to 27555 and on busy periods anything from 400 to 750 is, or can be choka, over 27500 is crap as its too near UK FM and 10m band.

Of course 385 lsb is mad and anything around there is busy as well, during good prop days.

Any other good ideas? emoticon

26 something? But I'd like it to be accessable to all, no matter what 11m radio.

Years ago we never had a calling freq like 27555, that came along later in the late 1980's I think. Each individual group had a frequency that was monitored, we at EY (Yes I was an Echo Yankie, EY166, before div numbers as well emoticon ) used 27425 (How on earth I remembered that I don't know)

But it really has it advantages, when a group gets pretty big, and FB is now pretty big emoticon , its possible to nearly always find someone on THE frequency. So we need to think carefully and get it right as we dont want to have to change it emoticon

Looking around and listening out emoticon

Re: FB calling frequency

Dave, the Alfa Tango group were originally responsible for 555 being accepted as the international calling frequency, as this was the one they used and they were a pretty big international group, and the habit spread. They are also responsible for the country numbers we now use, which is why 1 is Italy.

They were certainly using 555 as a calling frequency in 1978, probably well before that.

Anyhow, any 26. frequency is no good for me unless I use a ham job, which I tend not to.

Re: FB calling frequency

i'd prefer something in the 27mhz band just cos my swr is pretty much ok in this part. and like dave said it would be nice for people to be able to access with slightly older radios that dont have a lot of frequencies

Re: FB calling frequency

Perhaps try to establish a general UK call frequency, like the US have with 27.385LSB and Austrailia with 27.355LSB?

Could be done with the participation of the other UK DX groups and make the chances of some activity that much more likely emoticon
