Hopefully I'll be out next Sunday - same antenna and Multimode 2, but a bit more power available. I need to do a few tweaks to some of the gear before I'm happy - one is to turn an old ham master base mic into a handheld, switched by relay and powered off the rig, and also devise a power supply of about 14 volts for the rig. I'm expecting to run 24 volts regulated down to 14 or so, avoiding that under-voltage situation which buggers the modulation on multimodes so famously. So - I'll be looking for a rig check when all is done.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hot Fusion)Tue, 08 Apr 2008 17:25:32 +0000 Re: Anyone out & about Sunday 6th April?https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1584,from=rss#post1584https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1584,from=rss#post1584EX6 is pretty good going, theres some big ole hills between me n exeter. i cant wait to try a bigger antenna as the results are goin to be cool i thinknondisclosed_email@example.com (topbuzzuk)Mon, 07 Apr 2008 19:23:06 +0000 Re: Anyone out & about Sunday 6th April?https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1583,from=rss#post1583https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1583,from=rss#post1583Well, my first DXpedition this decade didn't come to anything. I took the family to visit the inlaws, with a plan to park in my favourite spot a mile from there. We were very late leaving, (women!) and so I had to make do with the car park. Bleddy computers! I was getting about S3 of continuous hash so listening for signals in the back of the box was out of the question. However, I heard Paddy (FB118) operating on '585 between 3:20 & 3:45, and although I could only pick up about half of what you were saying due to the interference, under better circumstances you would have been R5, no problem. I did respond at one point, but as I was only running 12 watts or so, someone else got in over the top, although I couldn't hear any other stations above the QRM. Paddy, for your information I was in postcode area EX6. (google maps will reveal all.) I'll be better equipped next week!nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hot Fusion)Mon, 07 Apr 2008 18:48:08 +0000 Re: Anyone out & about Sunday 6th April?https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1575,from=rss#post1575https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1575,from=rss#post1575get some offroad tyres on the rear of the van, and stick all the weight over the back axle(if it rear wheel drive)i was always gettin stuck in my transit where it was so light on the back endnondisclosed_email@example.com (topbuzzuk)Mon, 07 Apr 2008 09:12:14 +0000 Re: Anyone out & about Sunday 6th April?https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1572,from=rss#post1572https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1572,from=rss#post1572flask i take cooker,av bacon & egg, lots of fresh tea. mite get a winch for van retreval??? nondisclosed_email@example.com (26fb139)Mon, 07 Apr 2008 08:11:42 +0000 Re: Anyone out & about Sunday 6th April?https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1568,from=rss#post1568https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p1568,from=rss#post1568Bloody fabulous Paddy, really got that antenna sorted on the motor then I'm a bit jealous of you mobile peeps, up the hills, I bet the snow was good, I mean it looks good and dampens the sounds. This'll be the first time for years, and the gear has been dusted off and tested. I'm not expecting much skip as '24' has yet to peak, but I'll be listening particularly for ground wave contacts. I'll be using an unloaded 1/4 wave on the car, and probably just bare rig power - monitoring 555 most likely. Location middle-ish of Devon, and using FB107 as the call. If you hear me, please answer as it can get a bit lonely up there...nondisclosed_email@example.com (Hot Fusion)Sat, 05 Apr 2008 20:05:12 +0000
