Hi Rob, not owned one but have heard loads on air and most sound really good, a very popular radio but there are a lot that dont like them. A good starter I would say, a lot of radio for little money. I think there is a v6 out now. If buying s/h try before you buy. Get the silver rod in the air and have fun

Re: hi, new to DXing, just cheking..
cheers kaosssss, I will probably just get it then, im not radio fussy, I own a little cheapo baofeng uv-5r plus, and although it was only £35, im quite impressed, maybe not up to the yaesu vx5r I had before, but certanly a bargain given the yaesu was £250 !, so im all good with cheap chinese radios .
thanks rob

Try and go for a 5/8th wave, aerial. Only a bit more expensive and a little longer, but more bang per buck as they say

Re: hi, new to DXing, just cheking..
Intek / Anytone / Maas / KPO / whatever you want to call them, radios are all good. They got a slating in the early days by the "Olde Skool" brigade, but many are coming round to them now. Immesely programmable without resorting to soldering irons, veroboard and insulating tape.
Whereabouts in Scotland are you? (roughly...)
