New 11m calling frequency

When SSB becomes legal early next year for some 11m frequencies, it will require us (Not just FB, but all of us 11m users) to come up with a new calling channel.

27555 is NOT going to be part of the legal spectrum, and it will remain the main 11m international calling frequency.

But for those wishing to stay within the boundaries, at the moment theres not a recognised 11m DX SSB calling frequency within the CEPT channels, if there is no-one told me emoticon

There are other countries that do this, well most do I think.

What call frequency would you choose?

For gods sake dont choose that 27385 lsb, that is a madhouse !!. Its no way treated with any sort of respect like a calling channel should be. as a calling channel, it is nothing but a high horse where someone with masses of output power gets to transmit and will not budge, sometimes for an hour or more until someone with an even bigger signal than him manages to drown him [sign in to see URL], but 385 lsb will suit me fine. Sorry Mad Mark, wrong choice lol.
Calling channel aside, we surely will not be permitted to use the radios we normally use at the moment ?. I would imagine the only radios permissable would be radios that are not even made yet, unless the cleverer companies have been following the Offcom beat closely and are waiting in the wings with something like a specially stamped SSB/AM 2014 transceiver strictly limited to 12 watts. Interesting times ahead.

Re: New 11m calling frequency

Just been catching up after quite a while on a few threads and a few forums regarding the legalisation which seems to be getting closer, be nice to have a new feel "glossy coat of paint" spectrum for CB.

I take it the new legal band will still be the 'mid block'/CEPT/old AM frequency's as announced a few years back?

It will be interesting to see what call channel works, I mean who thought of ch14 and ch19 I wonder originally and why? hopefully the channel selection will be a sensible choice for the UK, I wonder will separate call channels develop for both USB and LSB?

Ch38 - [sign in to see URL] Lsb is a mess Dave (225) for sure at times, Ch31 [sign in to see URL] FM seems well used as a European call channel.

Ch27 - [sign in to see URL] usb/lsb? sounds good to me Dave (001).

I'm getting excited now like a kid again!

Re: New 11m calling frequency

Just to make a case, for.

For those that are advocating channel 38 LSB, this won’t work as a calling frequency, if theres any kind of propagation it will be unusable because the way its used in NA like a Superbowl channel. For those that say “if it ain’t broke……” Well frankly 38 LSB IS broke and we won’t fix it.

38 USB is an option, but I think too close to LSB, particularly during high levels of propagation.

Also you’ll note from the calling channel list, that there is no “official” calling frequency, channel, for 26, 68, 108 or 163. Not that we particularly need one either TBH.

But, in the light of SSB becoming legal early next year (probably), wouldn’t it be a sort of celebration of this? To have a stand alone UK wide SSB calling channel on legal CB?

I’d like to see it, but as someone else pointed out. It may happen somewhere on the band by evolution, not by choice, “we” will end up using a particular channel and wherever that lands will be by accident.

We’ll see emoticon

Yes, iI did read it Mark, and you must admit your wording seems to clearly suggests 385 lsb, or alternatively usb. Well thats how I interpreted it anyway. No matter though, as Dave points out, usb is too close to it to work Anyway.
I'm definitely in favour of a new calling channel that can be identified as having been initiated by UK operators, or at least one that originated from the UK, seeing as this has been hard fought for by so many UK operators and for so many years.

Re: New 11m calling frequency

Thats true Dave, It may just happen by choice, Who originally used the triple 5... Ok years ago, the 11 mtr band was a Ham allocation that we never got back... as the military took it over...

Back In the day on A.M, ch 14 was the calling channel for fixed stations and ch 19 for the truckers and mobiles.. this is what was agreed back then... Although some used ch 22 for calling, Instead of the 14.... It was a bit confusing, depending on were you lives you could have had a few calling channels... Anyway, Lets get it legal first, Im sure the rest will work itself out.. :-)

Re: New 11m calling frequency

Good luck with the call frequency and hope it goes ahead and becomes legal next year for you guys in the UK.
It may as suggested, end up working itself out on a certain frequency, as happened down here. The official call here is 27155lsb and is still listed as that on the ACMA website, but it migrated higher up to 27355lsb during the 80's and became the defacto call frequency used by everyone.
I've also read an article that was saying 27255usb is the international call on the legal 40, but I never hear anyone use it.
As for t5, I think it started out decades ago as the official Alpha Tango frequency that morphed into the international call frequency (as far as freeband use is concerned).
Anyway, may work some UK next year on the 40, all going well.
Cheers,
Mike.
