Sounds like a loose wire in the mic plug, or a break in the cable close to the plug, which is a common issue with radios as its this point that gets flexed a lot.

I have just tried 2 differant microphones, still have the same problem.
When i was swapping mics over,i touched the microphone socket with my finger on the radio, and it went into a short burst transmit.

RF feedback?

Doesn't sound right, but you can start by earthing the radio, a good earth.

Some ferrite rings/clips on the coax, and make sure the swr is good.

Try routing your coax away from the radio and other cables. You could make an RF choke, which may help.

Trying to earth a radio when its upstairs isnt easy...

Do you have a DUMMY LOAD handy. If so use this, as its shielded it shouldnt give out any RF or if it does it will be very weak, this shouldnt cause any problems to the radio... If the radio still does it on a dummyload then its NOT rf....

You can as Dave has said, Put some ferrite rings on your cables... Try the power lead and any extension leads such as the Extension speaker if you use one, The clip on ones are easy to use... I would try the dummy load first though... to rule out RF you can then decide what needs doing to remedy the problem..

SORTED tried all the things you guys suggested,i still had the same problem.
I have just got back from a friends radio shack, tried the radio there still the same problem,my friend eventually pin pointed the problem to the vox switch,he replaced the switch and hey 100% working again,he noticed while we was chatting between ourselves the radio went into intermittant transmit bursts.
Thanks to all who have tried to help me.
regards Neil.
