Re: YAESU FT857D??
I think you can only freeband the older ones with a PC.
I have 2 FT-817ND rigs.
One was made in 2004 and will freeband the other is a 2008 model and it won't.
I could do it by removing some solder links, but that would void the warranty.
Cheers,
Ian

Re: YAESU FT857D??
Just took delivery of one of these to replace my FT7800 covers HF/VHF/UHF and its similar size to 7800 so should go in car the same.
Initial playing reveals loads of Menu's but once set you dont need to go back too often.
will let you know how it performs once mastered
Not getting it Modded until warranty runs out
Cheers TC

Re: YAESU FT857D??
Very nice Tony, want one! I have been trying to find somewhere local that does foundation training but not having any luck, there was one in Mold-handy for me, but the chap that does it is ill and has gone away for a few weeks and doesnt know if he is going to do it anymore. Got to ring him back end of this month, fingers crossed!
Al

Re: YAESU FT857D??
Have checked that website before, all the ones that were local are not doing them now, most are looking for better premises, was one in Frodsham I think but council kicked them out for some reason? Think they moved to Warrington now, to far for me to use as a local club.
Could be a few of us out and about Sunday, Keith is out, Dave is about, yourself getting bit! and me eating me butties.

Re: YAESU FT857D??
Have tried widebanding with software option but some people have said the programmes dont work on the D version. the Hardware option is bit dicey as the solder joints are microscopic.
Think I will leave this one on Ham bands only.
I have used it daily and it is a good rig once you get your menus set up!!
