Amateur Radio Training

Clubs all over the country will be starting Amateur Radio training courses in January. Find a club near you at [sign in to see URL]

A training course will take place over six Thursday evenings (7-9pm) starting 9 January at the Danbury Village Hall near Chelmsford in Essex. The training is a fun and friendly affair, with a mix of presentations and practical exercises. When you have your licence you can use all the amateur HF, VHF and UHF bands between 1.8 MHz and 440 MHz.

This video produced by Essex Ham shows what to expect on a typical training course:

Yep, many thanks for that. I'm someone who needs a kick up the ass to move on to the next stage really emoticon

I did plane to do it last year, oh, and the year before, oh and..... well you get the picture. I just need to get in gear and get the next stage sorted emoticon

I highly recommend the foundation course as least, it will enhance your radio hobby for certain, and you never know, may turn you into a full on ham op emoticon Many FB members have gone on to be full on ham ops, some of them were, and in some cases still are, proper freebanders emoticon

Does anyone know if the Ham tests are universal?

I live in Ireland and was wondering if the criteria would be the same as the UK, as there is much more information available on UK sites with regard to the foundation course.

Could not find much at all on Irish sites emoticon

Thanks in anticipation.

There's quite a lot of information here

]clicky link thing

It looks a lot simpler than the UK's at first glance anyway.

Thank you for the link. It looks like there is only one exam and not tiered like the UK.

I am still reading and will update you when I've finished.
