mobile antenna

Any recommendations on a good mobile antenna. Maybe something that would cover 11m and also maybe change whips over for some of the hf amateur bands?

I can't say enough positive things about the Sirio range, 5000 or 4000 performer, they are well made, they work extremely well on 10 and 11 and whilst I never changed the whip I know you can remove it.

It was the best mobile antenna I ever owned and I'm looking to get another in due course. I had the Sirio mag that compliments it but you can buy two versions so you can have it fixed to your car rather than on a mag. Look them up......let me know what you went for out of interest panther.

Re: mobile antenna

I've had two Sirio 4000's.

I must be the only person on the planet who had two Sirio 4000's go wrong. Don't get me wrong, when they worked they were easily the best mobile aerial I've ever come across. I worked Sean 2FB105 whilst on the M40 from Oxford to Bromsgrove at 80+mph, without a blip, no worries, probably 45mins to am hour.

But it went wrong, couldn't get a signal, vswr through the roof, tries everything. Binned the coil and bought another one. Fitted it a few weeks ago to take to the IOM, same thing! Couldn't believe it, tried everything I know (Which aint too much emoticon )

So strapped on an old DV27, which was fantastic. Worked EU from the ferry car park and really worked a treat. It was a good aerial in 1979, and frankly its still a good 11m antenna no doubt.

I used to have an old DX27, which is a bigger version of a DV, but lost it years ago, also I've got a Shakespeare White Stick, but its 7' long and not really practical for mobile, it is 30 odd years old though and I used to have it fitted to my narrow boat.

For me, mobile, I'm an old stick in the mud, I would seek out a DX27, or even a DV27 emoticon

But the Sirio did perform well, whilst it worked emoticon

Sirio Omega on the way..
Also have a Short Springer and a Dominator..
The Dominator came supplied with a Caterpillar loading shovel and the SWR instruction leaflet referred to it as an Everhardt Antenna from the USA.

I have had old Sirio CB 27 Special on my car for years, an itäs still working like new.

It have been hitting trees and bridges on 120km/h speed. Surrived one broken mount on 160km/h speed. (One winter morning big ice block hit directly to mount and ripped it off)

only 1.8meters long, and very flexible.
