posticon magnum 257 ssb

another stupid question i think ?
my radio works fine on fm . since i have started f/b i stopped for my break "lorry" on a nice spot and did some calling on 555. I could hear plenty of stations but not one reply. I noticed the power meter was not showing anything when i key up so i put my swr/power meter on and the result is no power when key up but as i key off there is a pulse on the power meter for aprox, 1 second so i would benefit from someone telling me its all ok its normal you have not been stung when i got the rig .

anyone with any know how please help
all the best
me

SSB doesnt have a carrier and only works from your modulation. The meter should work, bounce around, when you're talking.

I'd say that is the case.

I recommend you check the microphone internals, switch and plug wiring - I suspect that is where the fault is.

Re: magnum 257 ssb

The magnum has a mike processor and amp in the mike, if the dc feed choke that takes the dc up to the mike gets a beating on mike removal because its poorly located at the mike socket then it doesn't drain the electrolitic cap which holds the PTT on you then get excessive delay on the keying, its quite common and not an issue with operation just a bit annoying thats all i think it is, as i said its common and i've done five resolders on these radios already.
