Kenwood TS50

I recently acquired a Kenwood ts50 after many years of hankering. finally took the plunge and did it. no doubt I paid over the going price for this little gem, £450, but in all honesty It really is in mint condition, and working 100 percent with great reports. I even got the original box, which is a bonus considering the age of these old favorites. The design of these radios really was well ahead of it's time, and will put the design of many modern radios to shame. The mic, MC43S is as far as I know the original one, unless someone knows different, but it seems to work well anyway, though I've been told there are desk mic's out there that will improve the audio even further. ( any advice on this appreciated ). I've had quite a few transceivers come and go in this shack over the years, including Yaesu ft450 and a couple of Icoms, but this one is definitely a keeper, alongside my Ranger rci2970n2 and a little Optima 3.
I'm trying to find out when these TS50's were discontinued, to give me some sort of idea of the age of mine. Anyone know?

Thanks for the info. Radio must be around 15 years old then at least. Time to change the lithium cell inside too I suppose, they say the life of that is around 5 years or so depending on the usage of course. I'll try that MC-60 desk mic after the hol's. Cheers.
