Been interested on radio since the 1950,s! Built my first AM radio station in 1959 And broadcasted to an area of about 25sq miles playing the latest music. Good fun but… Got involved in Shortwave radio in the 60,s, again great fun. My shortwave radios are (still have) a Yaesu FRG7 & FRG 7700, running on a 100ft long wire aerial. Great receivers. In 1967 I purchased my first CB radio, A Lafayette 6ch AM handheld (pair) on a trip to London. No one in my location had seen anything like this before. Had a range of about 1 mile. In the beginning of the 80’s I got involved in selling CB and electronic goods and started a very successful company selling to both wholesale and retail shops and customers. This business ran for almost 35 years until I retired in 2014. My CB’s in those early days were a Tristar 747 and a Superstar 390FM, Avanti Moonraker Mobile antenna, a Sigma 4 base aerial for vertical use and a 3 element mini beam on a rotator for horizontal contacts. I lived high up so the world was at my finger tips. QSO’s to Australia, far east, South America almost daily. My best QSO was to a ship anchored around the “South Pole”. I got a QSL card to prove as no one would ever believe. To make it even better that contact was made mobile running 12w pep!! Like a lot of early operators, I got fed up with the idiots who made CB a laughing stock. Although I stayed involved, I put the old SS360 away (still have but not used. Then at the beginning of this year (2018) I decided to fork out and purchase a new set up. This comprises of a SS9900, a Siro GainMaster 5/8w base aerial, 30w PSU + aerial for the car. I built a T2LT for static mobile op,s. Pity the propagation is very low but sometimes not too bad. My new FB call sign is: 26 FB 2019. Hope to speak to some of you in the future. 73 – Good DX Del 26 FB 2019 nondisclosed_email@example.com (del6600)Sat, 17 Nov 2018 11:48:38 +0000
