posticon Take you foundation course

Although I am an advocate of the freebands, and frankly will use just about any white noise area of the radio spectrum. I always encourage people to take the foundation course, it is the best thing in recent years to get people into radio. Right now more people, unknowingly for the most part, have access to radio, nearly every single person in the world now carries a radio transceiver in their pocket!

Look up your local radio club and take the course emoticon

Ham radio,or radio, will survive because its a physical thing, the rules about using it will change, but the science will not and in the end there will always be people trying it, using it and experimenting with radio.

Just turn that dial, move around a bit, there is some stuff going on all over the place emoticon

Re: Take you foundation course

I second that; I just recently renewed an old Advanced Class ticket. Amateur Radio definitely needs an infusion of new blood (since the most common complaint is that most hams are geriatric old men): let's get some diversity out there and make it interesting!

And even now in the depths of the solar minimum, weak signal modes like FT8 (see WSJT-X) are booming (for better or worse).

80m and 40m bands are doing reasonably well and daytime brings a bit of activity on 20m, and as the new solar cycle emerges, things should start hopping in the not too distant future.
