Aircraft - civilian

One of the things I've been doing on the radio whilst in the shack is scanning aircraft, only really those that fly overhead, or close by.

I can track the actual plane on the internet and hear the pilot talking to the control tower. I'm lucky in that I live in an area where this happens regularly, in fact just about every plane that goes over.

They operate on AM, yep no kidding, between about 118.000 and 136.000, military are slightly different, and I'll listen in to them as well given the chance emoticon

Can be quite interesting as they are not as stuffy as they all seem emoticon

See here for a link to live aircraft positions

Are they using ADS-B in your part of the world? Or something similar?

Yes ADS-B, allover the world I think.

This is ideal for tracking the aircraft, after it has identified itself, but SWL the pilot/navigator and the control towers is quite good.
