"would it be possible to use a 6m beam...trimmed down slightly with a atu as a half sized kind of beam?"

Going back to the original question, the answer is no. Trust me, I'm an idiot...

The reason is because the spacing between the driven element and the directors have a strict matematical relationship with the frequency being used, and if these spacings are changed (or the frequency changed) the beam will no longer radiate in a directional manner, but will simply scatter the readiation in a random manner.

So - whilst it would be possible to tune the driven enement by using an ATU, the antenna as a whole wouldn't work.

You could build a physically smaller beam by placing loading coils in the elements, but the spacings between them would have to remain correct, and the overall efficiency of the antenna would suffer.

Better to stick with a vertical, really.

Have you considered a cubical quad?
A biggish antenna, but it could be made foldable to a degree.
