Re: Best buy for under £300

the 706 mk2, I like this one-£300 limit well gone now!-so what atu would I need for this, although I would only be using it for listening to for now so wouldnt need one straight away, right? Have loads of room in garden for wire aerial/s so would need one in the future. Are these easy to wideband also for 11 mts?

Re: Best buy for under £300

706 MK II is an excellent choice, and also very popular, one of these models has an ATU built in, cant remember which one atm. But it lacks other features.

The 706 does 100w, so a 100w atu would be ideal. I like manual ATU's but others, like Tony and Keith prefer automatic ATU's. There are plus and minus for each. An auto ATU will be very easy to operate first time around, tony147 has some experience of auot ATU's and is worth consulting emoticon

Good choice, very good choice. A little complicated on the menu front, but many ops love these radios. Keith has one so he's definately worth asking emoticon

my 706 is the mk1 but to be truthful not alot happens on 70cms?????
as long as you can work the menus mate a piece of cake, but once set no probs at all.

Re: Best buy for under £300

i bought a 706mk2G and i love it, i only transmit on 27 megs at the mo as a manual atu hasnt come my way cheap enough yet. Menus are easy as long as you got the manual to double check wat everything means, theres prolly stuff on the radio i havnt sussed out but they dont stop it workin. A very good mobile/homebase radio i think emoticon

Thanks for the offer Keith but now have to put a hold on my spending due to sudden urge to start a new business venture. Thanks to everyone else for the help also, think I will go for the 706 mk 1 or 2 in the end, its small and will do all I will ever need I think, give it a few weeks to sort myself out and will keep you all informed.
