I can't say I'm a freebander, or at least certainly not an active one, but I've got an interest in electronics and am quite adept with a soldering iron or breadboard. Very adept with a computer keyboard (c++) but haven't done anything radiowise. Well, not since blaggin my way around the 160m band in the UK (false callsign) about 20 years ago anyhow Am curious as to what's happening in the illicit scene, I fell upon this place while wondering what had happened to UK CB adventuring since legalisation and the inevitable decline. What band is best at the mo for DX contact? I know it varies with sunspot and season but I've no idea how or when.. I'm wondering whether to bolt something together, maybe something SSB? I have a beloved old shortwave receiver that I inherited from my Dad. I've got it tuned up and working well enough to pick up the ham bods and have just reincarnated the improved VFO I built for it. Bet no one recognises the box though - it's a CR100 ! <Grin> If you recognise the model number you'll understand the grin.. Anyways enough for now. Hello people! Dave. Oh, PS, among other things I got up to a couple of decades ago was the coding of an RTTY decoder for a ZX-thing. Is there any data activity of any sort? Bringing that into the 21st century would be entertaining. Any experimentation happening anywhere?nondisclosed_email@example.com (Gabb00)Sat, 01 Nov 2008 00:36:04 +0000
