Re: Solarcon A99 (Antron)
I'm far too antisocial to have neighbours anymore they've all moved away.Nearest busybody now a distant 2 miles!. I recommend starting up a clay pigeon club if you want to get rid of neighbours. Plus as you're armed they don't voice there objections too loud.

Re: Solarcon A99 (Antron)
Had my a99 for well over a year and i am impressed so far.
Worked all over the world on 11m and it works ok on 14/16m too, stood up well to very strong winds which were recorded on my weather station at over 90mph gusts this year.
If it breaks i will try its bigger brother the imax but until then it will stay put....

Re: Solarcon A99 (Antron)
overpriced rubbish ! - had 2 of em - both failed with either water ingress or poor construction ( yep ripped em apart to sse WHY they failed )
if you want a half wave antenna a cheap and cheerful ally one - PROPERLY put together - eg clamps AND screwed on each joint - then each joint wrapped with either DENZO TAPE ( MESSY but will withstand anything ) or self amalgmating tape - will do just as well
as to GAIN figures ?? - never beleive them - the ONLY way to test them is on a proper range ( very expensive ) and as i have said else where the antenna is ONLY PART of the SYSTEM - and that what works for one location may not work for another
there seems to be a misconception that HF antennas ( or at least verticals ) need to be mounted high up - they DON'T a near ground mount with as much grounding directly under it and spreading out FROM the mounting point is best - you DO need to mount VHF /UHF verticals as high as you can - but look at most HF antennas and you will see them ground or near ground mounted
now REAL dipoles or beams are a different matter - they DO benefit from hight
any ways that my opinion - based on what has WORKED for me - like i say tho - thats for THIS qth - and MY system - each is different
--- "my reputation proceeds me " ..... "right lets fire up the quattro "
