Yes - sounds a bit meaty, doesn't it? Got to be a switch mode job.
Shall we pay him a visit and stroll off with it??

Re: hope this does what it says on the tin
Well my B550P didn't actually give me any increase on received signal when talking to Simon FB204 from the mobile on Friday afternoon so I'm a bit disappointed but in reality as I posted earlier in the thread with the 300P I don't have to rune the engine constantly meaning eco friendliness and more importantly no self generated QRM.
Sorry Paddy this doesn't mean you can have it as you have two batteries, my deep cycle Exide Maxxima will feed it engine off for a reasonable time too and all that power wasting heat from it will keep the car interior warm....good luck with the move mate,Dave.

Re: hope this does what it says on the tin
thanks Dave for the wishes on the move, not that i cant have the 550 to be honest i am happy with the 300, it does what i want it too. I spoke to australia on 100watts before so anything over is a bonus but not needed

Re: hope this does what it says on the tin
Are we talking TRANSMITTED ENERGY in watts here or DISSIPATION in watts, there's a million miles betwwen them. A 4-1000 valve for eg will only dissipate its rated 1000 watts of HEAT in constant use but will transmit 4000 watts of rf in short duration ssb and i personally know they'll do 5.5kw in ppb burst only mode. Most tran amps are optimistic on sales pitch and dissapointing on peak anything.
Also in class ab amplification you are not amplifying all the signal "only the big spiky bits" yes?. A mrf455 will carry 250 watts plus but it cant do it constantly because it can only DISSIPATE 55w so for voice coms its ok to drive it harder than 55w because a human voice on ssb is made up of a low average signal(less than 35% of max). Help? or not really. Thats the short answer anyway.
