AR 2002 low gain

Hi All

I bought an AR2002 from fleabay , and have been running it on a Moonraker Royal since the weekend.
I wasnt too impressed with the lack of reception, so connected my Kenwood R2000 to the Discone and found a that signal strength is +30 on the same frequency that i can barely hear anything on on the AR2002. It must have a fault , so does anyone know of anything before i start head scratching.

Cheers, Justin

Re: AR 2002 low gain

Hi
I have looked for circuits of this on the net, but no luck. However, I did find a reference to a DBM. I know for a fact that if you put too much signal into the front of a DBM (like stupidly close to a transmitting aerial, or worse still, the same aerial as a transmitter) it kills the diodes in it. The good news is that these are not expensive at all. Maybe a tenner on a bad day, unless they chose a particularly expensive device.
It's a tough call without a circuit, but that's what I would guess. It's worth a try!
Regards
Ian

Thanks for the reply.
I have a schematic, but just wondered if someone knew of a common problem, rather than me getting stuck in ( have to do too much of that at work emoticon ).

Cheers, ill have a look at your suggestion.
