mag mount on tin?

Hi guys I'm fairly new to cb radios and just trying to find out some information about using a mag mount. I am currently using a sirio balcony antenna because I live in a rented apartment so putting an antenna on the roof is out of the question but its just not getting me out there all that well. My friend has recommended using a mag mount antenna and attaching it to a metal tin. Does anyone know if this will work because we are both not sure of the requirements for ground planes. Any information about this would be greatly appreciated
Thanks

It would work better if you attached some wire groundplanes, four from each corner approx 6ft long would help but tbh this still isnt going to work that well.A 1/2 wave dipole 9ft x 9ft with a connector block in the middle for the coax will work much better..

I use one as a back up antenna and ive worked usa, greece and iceland on 20w but mine is approx 20ft in the air and in free space but you could mount yours along your apartment wall which would make it more directional but still work.Do you have railings if so just attach the magmount to the railings if they are metal......

Ok thanks I was thinking of getting a sheet of metal to put on the balcony floor and stick the mag mount to that. I'm just not familiar with how it all works. The balcony rails are metal but the top is wood so I guess that will not work I'm on a top floor apartment so got highest balcony I'm not sure why the balcony antenna I got doesn't work that well do you think it is the building that is blocking the signal? It has got a radial at the bottem do you think the angle could have anything to do with this? Any info is very helpfull thanks
