Sirio dipole

What a pile of crap. very very hard to tune cant get a swr under 1.7. put outside on the balcony and swr goes to 3+ spend another hour tunning it cant get swr under 1.9 then put it in loft = 3+. rubbish

Re: Sirio dipole

I never had any problems with mine?

All I did was to closely follow the dimensions given in the instructions and it was bang on from the off. My 5 ele beam I use now still has the same gamma match from that dipole emoticon

Assuming you are using the SY27 model?

(Moved to antenna section - hope you don't mind. emoticon )

I'd say it is a measurement issue, as a gamma match is pretty versatile at matching unless something's a long way out.

Let us know how you get on.

Re: Sirio dipole

could be the balcony railings if they are metal effecting the swr, also double check the coax and plugs

Yep, coax and plugs.
Always forget to mention that. emoticon

You will never get a good SWR if there are reflections coming back from a crappy connection.

Re: Sirio dipole

I had one up to for a while with no problems, swr was low from the offset, I even moved the gamma to see the difference and it was very easy to get the SWR down again.

Re: Sirio dipole

Hello,

The objects in the direct enviroment have most certainly influences.

Besideds that...there migth be another thing.
A gamma-match is normally used to adjust impedances below 50 ohms up towards that 50 ohms.

A very commen mistake is that people think a dipole has a 75 ohm impedance (or 50 ohms).

The impedance of a dipole can be from almost 0 upto about 100 ohms depending on the heigth above ground.

That migth also be of influence.

You could verify that by just placing the dipole at a different heigth
(or polarisation).

Kind regards,

Re: Sirio dipole

I did Paddy, it worked okay but when I had it horizontal it was only about 15ft off the ground, my Imax worked better, I think realistically the dipole should be up as high as physically possible to get the benefit of it, a full wave up anyway, if it was it probably could of equaled the imax or perhaps bettered it on DX.
