Re: Audio equipment

lol. still easier with a graphic. i use a seperate radio to listen to myself and check the audio - a stalker 9f dx with no antenna and rf gain backed right off to get a fair idea.

Re: Audio equipment

An old old thread, but I've learnt a great deal since this started emoticon

I have the very TS870 mentioned in the beginning of the thread. I know most of the menus settings now and I certainly know the audio set up :0

I have different audio equipment than when I started, I made all the common mistakes, now, I think, I have it conquered. I certain don't get all of it.

But I think I know how to set it up, how to make it sound "Right" (Subjective I know) How to make it wide, bassy, narrow, good for DX, good for different bands, flat etc etc.

Even the full on VOODOO sound has been mostly achieved, but you'll need the right radio to hear it.

I have tons of stuff, leads, plugs, mic transformers, etc. etc.

If anyone else is thinking of getting into the audio side of SSB, lets use this thread for Q&A emoticon

Edited to add: Come back Soundmanjim, all is forgiven emoticon

Re: Audio equipment

Glad you have got some audio sorted out Dave, Greg 68DT103 who runs the NI DX radio forum is into his audio in a big way, it might be interesting for you to swap ideas with him, he has various Behringer equipment and digital EQs and things.

It's hard balancing between DX audio and essb audio.

I'm getting good results from my TS850s and an Audio Technica ATR30 mic, the filters are open to 6KHz wide through the Kenwood DSP-100 digital processor which has the dip switches set up to allow 6KHz, I use it for local and DX both, it's a bit low and bassy as I have no external EQ but using the High Boost setting on the TS850s seems to do the trick.

Kenwood TS870 - Centre fed balanced dipole - HPSD 2 element Moxon for 11m, vertical 'Ringo' for 11m.

Re: Audio equipment

Hi all, back after a break and setting up my ESSB station emoticon

Thanks to the Voodoo guys for publishing tons of helpful info, my setup comprises of:

Kenwood TS-870 (audio fed to ACC2 socket with capacitor mod)
ATR30 Mic
MIC2200 Pre-amp
MDX2600 (ch1 downward expander, ch2 compressor)
DSP1124P Equaliser
EX3200 Audio exciter
DSP2024P FX Processor
HD400 Bal-Unbal Transformer
Footswitch to key TX

Using the settings straight from Voodoo for each piece the sound is fantastic, just like one of those giant AM radio stations, even though TX bandwith is only 6Khz.
It is tempting to put on an American accent and count down the Top40 evertime though... emoticon
