HPSD Moxon for 11m - June 2012

Recently I bought a 2 element Les Moxon loop for 11m, I live in a small apartment here so a small antenna with some gain was needed, the boom is 4.5ft long only and the longest element is 13.6ft, Henry 19SD348 of HPSD antennas built the antenna for me and is a great source for information regards to antennas. He supplied me with instruction and the measurements for the Moxon.

The antenna arrived in a heavy duty pipe, the pieces are great quality, light but strong aluminium, all the fittings are stainless steel and good quality. Henry had the main pieces of the antenna already together and the rest was color coded with tape to match each element, the antenna was very easy to build and went together well, it's light and very strong, the boom is 2" diameter, and Henry even supplied an air core coax choke of quality RG213 (4 turns).

It's early days for testing but so far everything is very good, SWR is low from 26.5 MHz to 28MHz, so it covers a large range while still keeping an excellent front to back rejection (which is extremely high).

Looks good quality, I had a good gander around their web site, make some exceptional aerials for sure.

Will be interesting to know how good the Moxon is on 11m. I have one for 6m.

You'll have to do some testing Patrick, theres too much Elayer atm probably for accurate tests, but once the prop dies down a little you'll be able to give it a good assessment emoticon

Cheers Paddy & Dave, the little moxon is working exceptionally well, it has a great front to back ratio and very directional. It's outperforming my Imax 2000 vertical most of the time and I need not worry about it in any bad weathers. I would definitely recommend these for a small apartment or garden.

Pic of my 11 meter Moxon from Henry, now up and running. Really pleased with the strong build of this antenna, and it was a doddle to put together, I got a really low swr too on the first reading, 1.4 to 1 at the test height of around 8 feet off the ground. It's roughly at 22ft above ground now, and I got a 5/7 report from Michigan, 2et045 Jeff , using just 10 watts on the first afternoon of testing. Great reports since on low power into the states and Europe. There is plenty of spare on the 50 mil pole to raise it another 6 feet or more later when I've allowed the neighbours enough time to get used to it. A cracking little antenna for 11 meters, and thanks to Henry in Netherlands for supply, and also to Patrick, ( mr Nasty lol )for the advice. Regards all, 163fb225 Dave in Wales

Patrick,

How are you getting on with the beam ? I am thinking of buying one and interested in how it performs. Do you feel it is better than a half wave dipole ? How good is it into NA and as a beam ? Many Thanks.

What a great antenna, first time I've seen one.
The other one next to the white wall behind the blue bin looks the goods too.

Hello all, I don't know how I missed the new posts on this thread?

Anyway my moxon is still performing great though I have not been on radio as much the last month or two.

Great photo Dave 225 of your Moxon, i'm sure you are very pleased with it as I am with mine.

Connor I have sent you a message with some info, and to answer your question the 2 element moxon is much better than a half wave dipole and has much more forward gain and fantastic rejection from the rear. North and South America and the West Indies are really easy to work from here and the beam works great to that direction, it's not so easy to the North east and Australia but that is because i'm not in a great position for that area and no fault of the antenna.

I can recommend the Les Moxon beam as I'm sure many others will too.

43fb065 - thanks for the nice comments!
