Also I live on the ground floor and idiots round here would probably knick it at the first chance they got. If I attached it to the masonry windowsill. Maybe I could ask the guy above if I could drill into his wall. Suppose I could use a bracket of some sort for the 9' tank whip. Although I'm not sure what I'd use for a ground plane? As it's a quarter wave and a half wave would be too big to fit. On 12m - 10m anyway.nondisclosed_email@example.com (HBM3)Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:46:29 +0000 Re: Is this rig OK for freebandinghttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26756,from=rss#post26756https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26756,from=rss#post26756Ah! I never noticed :0 If you've got a window then you could fit an aerial on the ledge maybe? Here's a good place to start if you're going to do the foundation course. Its fairly easy and I would recommend everyone do at least the foundation :0 Manchester ARnondisclosed_email@example.com (yamanx1)Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:31:53 +0000 Re: Is this rig OK for freebandinghttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26755,from=rss#post26755https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26755,from=rss#post26755The OP is nearly two years old? I ended up getting a wide banded Alinco DX 50 and was fine operating it. I have studied Electrical and Electronic Engineering as an undergrad. Plus there's a wealth of knowledge to be found online. I was quite impressed with the radio too. I set up a 9' tank whip and used a grill pan and eight wire radials as a ground plane. Though I never hit TX honest your honor. Although the reception from Italy and France did open up on 27.555MHz quite a few times. I sold that rig at least a year ago. I have recently though just bought a Albrecht AE 7500 now that SSB is allowed on 11M unlicensed. But I do need a new PSU for it. Hoping to get it up while we're still near the peak of the solar maximum. I keep meaning to do the HAM license tests, but there is no exam centres near me. Unless anyone knows of one in Manchester city centre where I can easily commute too on public transport. Also I don't have my own garden for a permanent twig. I do have access to communal gardens. Although I don't think the Housing Association would let me put anything permanent up.nondisclosed_email@example.com (HBM3)Thu, 18 Jun 2015 08:16:57 +0000 Re: Is this rig OK for freebandinghttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26754,from=rss#post26754https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26754,from=rss#post26754No this radio is a amateur set. It can be "opened up" to work across other bands, including 11m. But if you're new to this I would choose something very different. You won't need UHF or VHF unless you are a licenced ham, I would suggest a less complex radio with fewer menus and user adjustments.. For 11m only there are many radios out the for a fraction of the cost of that set, for other HF frequencies as well as 11m, there are good sets out there depending on your requirement for far less. Do you intend to operate mobile or home base? Do you need all HF frequencies or just 11m?nondisclosed_email@example.com (yamanx1)Thu, 18 Jun 2015 07:48:27 +0000 Re: Is this rig OK for freebandinghttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26753,from=rss#post26753https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p26753,from=rss#post26753As far as I'm aware it doesn't cover the 11m band, and would need an amateur radio licence to transmit from it.nondisclosed_email@example.com (Kestral8)Wed, 17 Jun 2015 23:26:41 +0000 Is this rig OK for freebandinghttps://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p24508,from=rss#post24508https://bfreebandingtalktheplanet.runboard.com/p24508,from=rss#post24508http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yaesu-FT-857D-all-bands-all-modes-HF-VHF-UHF-mobile-portable-transceiver-NEW-/181250982066?pt=UK_Mobile_Phones_Communication_Ham_Radio_Receivers_Transceivers&hash=item2a336680b2 - is it OK for 11m and the other freebanding wavelengths.
