advice on hf radios and antennas


hi all am about 2 weeks from my m6 exam and studying so,s hope this is not premature to ask a question about radio,s and antenna,s I have a158 dx that cover,s most of the 10m bands which I will use my a99 I have a small handheld for 2m and 70cms with a home made dipole for 2ms and another homebrerw antenna for 70cms both which will go in the loft am looking for a cheap antenna to put in the loft as I do not want to mount anything outside in the garden if I can help it also a resonable priced hf radio as I know nothing about them may be with it,s own atu unit as your can see a complete newbie,s question der!! I hear you say thanks in advance for any answer,s 73s andy emoticon

Wow, difficult to answer if I'm honest. A good idea will be to have a good listen around before deciding what bands to concentrate on. HF sets come in all forms from big boat anchors to tiny mobile units, from 200w to 5w, its really up to you. Talk to the guys who are doing your instruction, see what hey think.

thanks for that very sound advice I will do that I lisern on a scanner to hf and 40m seems the only band around here that is used will sort radio once I have passed my exam gheers andy emoticon

Don't know if you got sorted out but a magnegtic loop would be ok for the loft.MFJ do a couple of loops that work well.
