This....
Ok so i am thinking about getting this,
PROWHIP PORTABLE HF ANTENNA, 160M - 6M , height 10M
Now my question is do i really need to buy a ATU ?
Or could i get away with out buying one, If i have to buy a ATU i will.
Anwsers on a postcard by y2140 please.

Deffo need an ATU if you want to operate all bands mate. I think there cut to operate on 40m and you'll need to add some more radials for the lower frequencies. If its the antenna im thinking of its just a fishing rod with a wire running up it with a 9:1 unun at the bottom.

exactly what it is.. ^^ i have 130 foot wire with a 9:1 unun which works very well although needs a tuner. the pro whip is a bit short to perform, tony150 has one and he doesnt rate it on 45m and 86m.. try making the wire element longer, have 10 meters of it vetrtical and then run the rest horizontal, it will improve it no end with a longer radiator

i dont use any radials/earths and it works ok, the 9:1 unun makes it tunable on a lot of bands and it was advertised as not needing a earth/counterpoise
